Fall is a beautiful time in the Northwest and the morning of the Pumpkin Caper 2006 was no exception. Blue skies, cool, crisp air and the most beautiful Fall colors surrounded the walkers of the 3rd annual 5K walk through Fanno Creek Greenway Trail, in Beaverton, OR.

Wonders Of Walking supports all styles of walking which were reflected in this year's walk - competitive, judged race walking, Nordic pole walkers, Volkswalkers, casual and social walkers and families with kids were all represented. This year's walk consisted of men and women, ages 10 to 68 (for those we received ages from). All finishers received a special Pumpkin Caper medallion medal and those that requested it received a cool, "glow in the dark" Pumpkin Caper t-shirt. Participants were treated to a wide variety of raffle gifts with a special grand prize raffle of a free overnight stay at the Marriott Courtyard.

We want to thank all the sponsors who helped make this event a success through their support or raffle items: Mountain Shop, REI, Marriott Courtyard, Jamba Juice, Atheleteslounge.com, and Walk About magazine. We had a wide variety of costumes this year with the grand prize going to Carol Reed, who came in a blow-up Turkey costume.

In a post event survey, we questioned what people liked about the event and the responses were very positive, "nice people, great time of year, friendly people, nice scenery." This quote from Ellen and Mary Ellen Whitten captures the morning quite nicely, "Thank you so much for organizing the Pumpkin Caper. This is the first year that my mother-in-law and I participated and we had so much fun we are going to add it to our "to do list" for next year. We appreciate all of the hard work that you and your team put into organizing these healthy events! Keep up the great work." WOW and the participants all want to send a big THANK YOU to all our volunteers who, without them, an event like this can not happen!

We'll see you all at next year's Pumpkin Caper, October 28, 2007!
