Pumpkin Caper
5K, October 23, 2005, Beaverton, OR

Pumpkin Caper 2005 a Great Success!
It was a perfect Fall morning for a brisk walk -- cool but not cold, clear skies, fresh air --  when the walkers of the Pumpkin Capers started their 5K trek through the Fanno Creek  ,  Greenway Park in Beaverton, OR. The walk consisted of a variety of walkers -- families walking with their kids, Nordic pole walkers, walkers in costume (more on that later), racewalkers, Volkswalkers, and social walkers out for the first time.  This year's Pumpkin Caper was deemed a huge success by all who participated.  Ninety one people participated this year with ages ranging from 6 to 71 years old, the average age being 41.  All finishers received a special Pumpkin Caper medallion medal and  all were entered in the random drawing s  for a variety of items donated by our sponsors : Mountain Shop, REI, Leki.  Leki donated two sets of Nordic  walking poles  for those specifically interested in learning this new walking technique.  In addition, Robert Duran of Back in Motion Chiropractic offered free on site massages and provided gift certificates for the random drawing, as well.  Many people got into the theme of the Halloween season and came in costume. We had an M&M, a 60's flashback, Leah from Star Wars,   s keletons ,  ghouls and goblins.  The winner of the costume contest and $100 REI gift card was Erin Drogen of Beaverton who came in a blow-up costume of a person riding a n Ostrich .  "The is a very well organized event" and "we'll be back next year" and this is "so fun" were some of the comments heard with a strong, "we'll be back next year!" WOW and the participants all want to send a big THANK YOU to all our volunteers who, without them, an event like this can not happen!

We'll see you all at next year's Pumpkin Caper, October 22, 2006!
