Hi there,
These days and weeks seem to be flying by very quickly. As the weather improves, the longer daylight hours make it easier for us to lace up our shoes and head out of doors for a walk. I hope you are taking advantage of this seasonal transition, as we approach Spring, enjoying all that our surroundings offer this time of year.
Lots of things are happening with Wonders of Walking. 2007 marks our 4th year of
events for walkers.
This year, we’ve added two new events to the Willamette Valley Relay ; the WV Half Relay, beginning in Scio, Friday evening, 7/20 at 11:30 PM ; and the WV10K Walk/Run, taking place in Alton Baker Park on Saturday morning, 7/21 at 8:00 AM.
Details on these new events plus course enhancements to the relay course are highlighted below.
If you have registered, I hope you are taking advantage of your team and walking with others. It is much easier to be consistent when walking with a buddy or two. Please remember to enlist the aid of Dr. Bryan with questions, which might arise during your training. Visit us online and click on “Ask Dr. Bryan.”
Enjoy!

WOW STADIUM CHAIR CONTEST
Last month we asked, "What was the neatest thing you experienced while out walking?" Among many fabulous responses, we decided on a tie between Jenny Weller and Kay Pearson. Jenny's story speaks of the nature surrounding us and taking the time to notice it. Kay's story speaks of our fellow walkers and how we all impact each other.
In addition to posting Jenny and Kay's stories on the WOW website , they will both receive the Exclusive WOW Stadium Chair.

The Willamette Valley Relay is our longest distance event. The mileage is divided into sections called ‘legs’. This is a team endeavor consisting of 8 to 12 members. Each year we review what works and what can be improved based on our experiences and our participants’ input. This year we’ve revamped the course beginning with Leg # 8 through # 18. It is quieter, pastoral settings, a different view of the magnificent Willamette Valley. For those unable to commit to the time involved…we offer you the New WVHalf Relay. It begins in Scio, OR close to midnight on July 20th.
This is half the distance with all the fun of a full relay. The third weekend in Eugene
is a celebration for what we have in common. We are offering our first
WV10K Walk/Run taking place at the finish line in Alton Baker Park. This is a great opportunity for family & friends to participate in this festival of activity weekend.

WVR CAPTAIN'S CORNER
Welcome New and Hello Veteran Captains!
If you have any questions about being a captain, write us and we’ll try to help you out. At this time, you should be working on the following:
- Encouraging your team to start their training now and not to wait. Wonders of Walking hosts a number of training opportunities.
- If you don't have a complete team, try our team matching! If you registered
with less than your full team, please register your remaining members by
sending in a registration form for each member no later that May 15, 2007.
- Soliciting help for volunteers. Remember, each team within a 50-mile radius of
the course (excluding Vancouver, WA) is required to have a minimum of 3 race
volunteers.
- Making your lodging reservations in Eugene. Visit the website for hotels holding rooms at discounted rates, La Quinta and Red Lion Hotel.

WALKING TIPS YOU CAN USE!
Walking in Balance
The most important aspect of walk training or any training program is balance. It is easy to exercise with exuberance, sometimes too much, too far, too fast too soon. Balance in training is one of the keys to success, whether a recreational walker, an avid fitness walker, or competitive racewalker. Balance is achieved by adhering to basic principles.
